• How has the content you learned in these modules helped you as a Ph.D. student?

The content we’ve learned in these modules has been very interesting to me. I especially liked the content on the different types of assignments. I had never really noticed how some assessments are formative and others are summative – and how each type can play an important role in the learning process. Equipped with this information, I feel like I can provide more useful and clear feedback in the end-of-semester TRACE survey for the courses I take. Because I can provide feedback on whether there was a good balance between formative and summative assessments in the course and whether the assessments accomplished their goal in evaluating my learning in the course.

  • Do you see this content making an impact if you do decide to teach? How can you make a difference in the courses you are a part of now as a TA?

I am strongly considering staying in academia after I obtain my PhD. I hope to become a professor and an instructor in the future. This means that I would likely be using Canvas or other Canvas-like tools for the courses I would be teaching. Because of this, the content we’ve covered in this course will be extremely helpful when the time comes for me to design my own courses. I am sure there will be many newer tools and techniques for course design but I will be much better equipped to learn and use those new tools given the experience I am currently gaining through the AT Scholars program.
